From the ED 12.18.14

Dear Colleagues,

By this time, most of you know that I am a person that strongly believes good decisions are made with good data. MISBO made a decision this year to partner with NAIS, and many of the other independent school associations, to support the new NAIS Data Analysis for School Leadership (DASL) platform. Many of the associations (including MISBO and SAIS) had developed their own data collection and reporting tools over the years. Now most of these are combined with DASL. In addition to the core data set, there are MISBO specific questions (as well as specific questions for other associations). When you log into DASL (and your school does not need to be a member of NAIS) you will see your school’s current association memberships.

The benchmarking tool and current data which was entered during the fall was opened last week. If you were not able to enter data, you have another opportunity to do so now – visit http://dasl.nais.org to get started. This is also where you go to start using the data. I am very pleased to announce that over 160 MISBO schools have already entered data this year, a significant increase over prior years. Of course, I would prefer that ALL 320 MISBO schools participate because as you know, the higher the participation, the more valuable the data. Hopefully next year, once the value and ease of this tool is more apparent, more schools will participate.

There are so many easy methods to extract data from DASL. I quickly looked at some of the tables and ran reports for MISBO schools for:

Literally, this took me just a few minutes. I strongly encourage you to play around and see what is possible. There is also a dashboard tool which many of you have been asking about for some time.

As you all prepare to wind down the school semester and take some time off, I want to wish you all a safe, happy, and most importantly restful holiday season. Take a well-deserved break and spend time with family and friends.

Sincerely,

Marc
