From the ED 12.4.14

by on December 4, 2014

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you all had a restful and refreshing break last week. I was able to spend time with family and push aside the regular demands of life for a couple of days. I know the coming few weeks are busy as your schools prepare for finals, holiday concerts and other events.

For me, it is also the end of what I call the conference season. Fall conferences and events start earlier each year and end later. The last for me this year will be a presentation (“Educational Transformation – Future of Schools”) at the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Annual Teacher / Administrator Conference to be held in Jackson, MS on Friday, December 5, 2015. Shane Blanton is the Executive Director of MAIS and he and I have had many conversations about the future of education and especially what that means for Mississippi.

In preparation for my talk this week, I looked at some noteworthy programs in place at Mississippi schools. Here are a few:

These are just three examples of great new programs at Mississippi schools. When I speak at conferences about the “Future of Schools” I am always asked about examples of schools doing innovative programs. The good news today is so many of our schools are changing their approach to the delivery of education. A good resource is the relatively new NAIS Inspiration Lab which continues to provide examples of new and exciting programs at our schools.

During the next few, busy weeks I encourage you all to take time to attend one or more of the student events that will be happening at your schools. It is a great reminder of why we do the work we do each and every day.

Sincerely,
Marc
