Dear Colleagues

MISBO was founded on the concept of providing the most robust purchasing program for independent schools in the US. (see What is a Purchasing Consortium)

Here are a couple of definitions:

ConsortiumConsortium – An agreement, combination, or group (as of companies) formed to undertake an enterprise beyond the resources of any one member (Merriam Webster)

Purchasing Consortium – A purchasing consortium is a group of two or more entities that come together for the purpose of combining their purchasing power and volume as a means of obtaining more competitive pricing for the goods and services they require. The general idea behind this type of consortium is to negotiate pricing through the collective group that in turn may be enjoyed by all the entities in the collective, regardless of the size and needs of each individual entity. By combining purchasing power into a central purchasing corporation, smaller companies can often obtain discounted pricing on all sorts of products that would normally only be extended to much larger business (wiseGEEK)

As we begin a new school year many schools have new employees who need to learn about the value of MISBO and understand the premise by which a purchasing consortium is successful. For MISBO to be successful, all members must understand and agree to the conditions. MISBO negotiates with approved vendors who agree to provide discounted pricing to ALL MISBO member schools regardless of size or volume. One of the key criteria for success is that MISBO schools abide by this simple concept included in the MISBO membership application:

MISBO pricing information is confidential and is not to be shared with any supplier or anyone else outside of your school. MISBO pricing many not be used to further negotiate pricing by member schools directly with vendors (MISBO vendor or others) as this dilutes the negotiating power of collective procurement savings with valued MISBO vendors.

As a MISBO member school all of your employees are able to log into our website and view the vendor contracts. Each person must have their own login that can be found here. If you experience any problems logging in contact Cheryl Goode at cherylgoode@misbo.com or at 404.921.3810.

All current vendors are listed here. Jay Danielson, Director of Vendor Relations is MISBO’s first point of contact for all vendor / purchasing questions and can help. Please reach out to Jay at jaydanielson@misbo.com or at 404.921.3813.

Questions about MISBO’s Electronic Resources program and vendors should be addressed to Dianne Sagaas at diannesagaas@misbo.com or at 404.921.3812.

MISBO is here to serve our members. The purchasing program saves your school resources, and provides a significant contribution to the MISBO operating budget. This revenue is primarily paid in the form of volume fees from the vendors and that in turn supports MISBO’s professional development programs. As a MISBO member, your school saves, and also receives a tremendous variety of professional development opportunities – win-win!

As always, please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of any assistance to your school.

Sincerely,

Marc
