From the ED 5.8.14

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing this article from Stuart, FL while attending the 2014 FISBO-MISBO Business Officer Conference. This is the 28th year that the Florida business officers have gathered in the spring for learning and networking with peers. It is the 2nd year that MISBO has collaborated with this group. We are thrilled that the 2014 conference had record attendance.

Dr. James F. Jones Jr., President, Trinity College, Hartford, CT started the conference with a talk about changing our assumptions about school (education) during a time when change (especially technology) is moving at warp speed. He ended by reminding the group that we as educators have a responsibility to provide the tools our children need ‘to build a bridge to the moon’ – a great metaphor about our challenges to educate our children for their future and not our past.

All of your schools are busy with year-end activities leading up to graduations and a multitude of events and ceremonies. It will all come and go so quickly. Please remember to take a moment and enjoy the fruits of your labor – the success of your students – the ultimate reason for our work.

If you are a newer business officer, a newer Head of School, a controller, or anyone that wants to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the business officer, please consider joining us and your colleagues for MISBO’s New Business Officer Intensive being held in Atlanta at Woodward Academy, June 8-10. More information and registration can be found here – www.misbo.com/intensive. Early registration deadlines and hotel discounts are good through May 19th.

Sincerely,

Marc
