From the ED 12.19.13

Dear Colleagues,

A year ago we all witnessed the horror of the Sandy Hook tragedy. As we reflect on the 1st anniversary of this event, I would again suggest that we consider remembering the name of at least one victim from Newtown, CT. I have committed to remembering Victoria Soto – a teacher who gave her life protecting her children. This week I would also ask you to send your thoughts and best wishes to Claire Davis and her family. Claire is in intensive care fighting for her life – a victim of yet another senseless school shooting which occurred this past week at Arapahoe High School in CO.

On a brighter note for the season, my very good friend and colleague Ace Ellis, CFO, Emma Willard School, Troy, NY and I were having one of our many philosophical conversations about independent school sustainability. As you know this has been a subject that I have given great thought to over the years. Ace recently wrote an article on this subject that was published in a November newsletter of the Santa Fe Leadership Center and he has given me permission to pass this along to all MISBO members. I think you will find this very interesting and thought provoking. He touches on the work of a number of authors that I have read and mentioned in my articles over the years. Here is a link to download this article.  I hope you enjoy.

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday season. I hope that it is filled with rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.

Happy holidays!

Sincerely,
Marc
