From the ED 9.26.13

Dear Colleagues,

There are three items I wish to share with you today:

  1. MISBO staff updates
  2. Annual Conference Reminder
  3. Benchmarking Survey Reminder

First, I would like to announce that Rick Hale, Director, Vendor Administration and Member Services will be retiring effective November 1st. Rick has been with MISBO for the past 10 years. During that time Rick has worked with every MISBO vendor as well as many schools, especially those in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He has worked with many of you on building projects and renovations. Rick’s contributions to MISBO and our member schools over the years have been many and valuable – leading to the shift from a member pay purchasing program to a vendor pay program – saving our schools even more by using our contracts. Additionally, Rick is leading the effort to implement a new vendor reporting portal which will go live October 1, 2013, providing an online tool for vendors to report all purchasing activity each quarter. This tool will provide MISBO staff the ability to quickly and accurately provide our member schools with information about their purchasing history and savings. This is a significant step for MISBO and I would like to acknowledge the efforts that Rick has contributed to make this goal a reality. Thank you Rick for all you have done over the years for MISBO, and most importantly our schools. We wish you and your family the best.

Additionally, I would like to introduce the newest member of the MISBO staff – Stormy Webster joins MISBO with nearly a decade of experience with independent schools as an Admission Director, including holding that position at two MISBO schools: St. Margaret’s School, VA and Darlington School, GA. Stormy’s experience with independent schools was an important consideration in our decision to ask Stormy to join our team. She will fill two important roles for MISBO: 1) Manager, Programs and Events – in this role Stormy will be the point person to manage all of the logistics for our live events which has grown to four over the past year; 2) Membership Services – Stormy will be the main point of contact for all member questions / comments / concerns.  If she cannot assist directly, she will connect you with the person that can help. As a membership association, we understand that the customer service we provide is important to our members experience with the association. Stormy can be reached at stormywebster@misbo.com or 336.875.4280. She will be working from her home office in Greensboro, NC, though with family in the Atlanta area, will also spend time with staff at our offices in Marietta.

The 2013 MISBO Annual Conference is being held October 27-29 and again this year we have partnered with SAIS to bring all MISBO and SAIS schools a unique opportunity to learn and network with your peers as well as with the entire leadership team at your school and your peer schools. This collaborative effort is unique in the independent school community. Our theme this year – The Global Future: Preparing Students and Shaping Schools – is one that should resonate with all of our schools. The program we have designed is intended to appeal to all school leaders from Business Officers, Heads, HR Directors, Technology Leaders, Curriculum Directors, Facility Directors, etc. It takes the collaborative efforts of all school leaders to ensure the success, relevance, and sustainability of your schools. For more information and a full schedule, please click here. In addition to the great presentations, there will be a full 24 hours to interact with over 60 exhibitors providing products and services to independent schools. The exhibitor hall will open after the general session Sunday afternoon with an opening reception.  This is a great opportunity to connect with old and new friends and to talk with the exhibitors about how they can help with your school’s success. On Monday night KI Furniture (www.ki.com) will be hosting a Welcome Reception at their nearby showroom. This is a great opportunity to see and touch some of the most innovative new furniture designed for 21st Century Schools. BusMax (http://automaxrental.com/), a MISBO vendor will be providing transportation to and from the reception.

Finally – I hope that you have stuck with me and read this far! The 2013 MISBO Benchmarking Survey deadline for data input is this Friday, September 27th. We have sent many messages and reminders, but I want to ask for your participation in this important survey. We realize that there are numerous surveys and these all demand your time and attention, but this is the most comprehensive collection of data about tuition, salaries, FTE’s etc. for schools specifically in our region. By partnering with SAIS, there are over 500 schools that can participate. Last year we had about 220 schools complete the survey. This year we are hoping to increase this to over 300. The data will be available at the end of October and will be valuable as you begin the process to determine tuition and salaries for the 14-15 school year.

Thank you for your support of MISBO and most importantly the work you do to support the children at your schools. Ultimately, the reason we continue our work is for the children.

Sincerely,

Marc
