Dear Colleagues,

Health insurance costs have been rising at exponential rates over the past couple of decades – at even higher rates than tuition at independent schools. Typically the line item of a school budget for health insurance is one of the highest behind salaries. One of the primary services MISBO offers its member schools is the opportunity to participate in the purchasing consortium. Our member schools purchase from over 130 vendors who provide significant discounts to our schools.

Health insurance is not as simple as many of our vendor relationships. We currently serve 315 schools in over 10 states in the southeast United States. Insurance is regulated by state law in addition to federal law.

For this reason, MISBO has evaluated a large number of options to bring our member schools a program which will help reduce their health insurance costs. Independent School Benefits Consortium (ISBC) through Oswald Companies, and originally in partnership with Ohio Association of Independent Schools (OAIS), will provide MISBO member schools discounted healthcare premium pricing. One goal of this program is to reduce the annual premium increases by leveraging the power of the group so all schools benefit. This program also allows schools to individually choose the plan design that best suits their needs and their employees.

We believe that the merits of this program stand on their own and encourage you to consider this option when you next evaluate your health insurance providers. As an incentive, on your first renewal, MISBO member schools who participate in this program will receive a 2% premium credit for one year. Additional credits can be earned in subsequent years by meeting the wellness program criteria. As with all aspects of the MISBO consortium, the more schools that participate in this program, the greater the advantage for every school!
